We choose the theme of Energy for the Killala St. Patrick’s Day Parade. We are currently in year two of the Global Citizenship Energy Flag ad students wanted to share their learning with the wider community. Children dressed as Wind, Water and Sun to promote their support for these three forms of renewable energy in the local community. They also shared their Green Code with spectators at the reviewing stand: ‘Be the solution not the pollution’.
Parents/guardians provided the following tips for saving energy & as a result saving money in a survey the children carried out as part of the Green Flag process. We combined all the tips into a list.
Good for the environment & good for your pocket:
- Turn off lights leaving the room.
- Buy energy saving light bulbs.
- Buy rechargeable batteries.
- Use the clothes line when possible.
- Walk whenever possible.
- Reduce the time spent in the shower.
- Close windows and doors to keep in heat.
- Put on extra clothes in cold weather.
- Put the plug in the sink when washing dishes.
- Turn down or turn off the heating in mild weather.
- Switch off appliances when not in use.
- Put the kettle on the range.
